EUROVISION hopeful Bambie Thug has described pop duo Jedward as “sweethearts” as the performer opened up about their Eurovision plans.

The Cork star will fly the flag for Ireland with the song Doomsday Blue on May 7 when they perform in the first semi-final and hopefully make the final.

Bambie revealed Jedward came to see them at their London headline show last year long before the Eurovision dream became a reality.

They said: “I met Jedward. They came to my London headline show before I even did Eurosong. They are sweethearts.”

Bambie said they know Irish people wouldn’t be their type of music but was proud of them “doing the right thing” and selecting them.

They added: “I’m not the type of music they sound or they even know to be honest.

“I’m just really proud of my country for doing the right thing.

“It’s been an amazing year for people from Cork... there is probably not a better country I could be representing.

PROUD

“Mostly I’m proud to be representing Cork because Cork is having such a good year this year and hopefully it continues.

“Cillian Murphy just won the Oscar. His family live down the road from me in the city and they’ve painted all the post-boxes gold in honour of him.”

Bambie was speaking on The Official Eurovision Song Contest podcast and revealed how they are excited to change people’s minds when they perform on the big stage.

They added: “I think this is a standout song. It’s in its own pocket this year. I’m excited to change people’s minds mostly.

“I’m excited for people to watch it live and be like ‘god dammit, this is my No1’.

“I’m a polarising act. I think that’s good. It’s good not to be everybody’s cup of tea. It’s good to make people question.

“People being upset by me – I take it as a good sign.”

Bambie also enlisted help to keep their voice in good order.

They revealed: “I have a scream coach who keeps me in check. I discovered screaming after I started songwriting with another artist. It is such a release. I have people online rating the song saying it’s so terrible for your voice – it’s not.

“There is a placement, there is exercise you do so you’re not hurting yourself.”
