BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT

Virgin Media One, 8pm

CANCEL all plans, put your phone on silent, stock up on TV snacks – it’s the week when BGT takes over the telly.

This means endless hours watching dozens of variety acts, or cursing this talent show as it lulls your family into a stupor.

So far this season, we’ve seen plenty of auditions – some good, some fantastic, some downright terrible. No man should play the hosepipe or put a fish on their head.

From the magicians and impressionists, to dancers and dogs (always the crowd pleaser – and Simon’s favourite), there is seemingly no end to Britain’s talents.

As the semi-finals kick off tonight, the first live Britain’s Got Talent of the series will see acts compete against one another to land themselves a valuable place in the grand final.

Among the acts we will definitely see this week, after they won a Golden Buzzer, are teacher Taryn Charles, who belted out an Aretha Franklin number, futuristic dance troupe Cyberagent Legit, Ravi’s Dream Team choir and singer Sydnie Christmas, who performed Tomorrow from Annie. On the judging panel, of course, are Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli, who join the incomparable hosting duo Ant and Dec.

After semi-final shows every night this week, whoever wins the final will bag a life-changing £250,000 cash prize and a spot on the bill of the Royal Variety Performance.
