When love and hate collide
The stars whose relationships ended on a bitter note... By Niamh Mceneaney
It is the month of love, with just a few days until every couple in the world displays their affection in the most sickeningly sweet way possible. They really know how to rub it in, don’t they? February 14 is a difficult day for singletons as they have to scroll through the influx of roses, chocolates and proposals on their social media feeds. So we have decided to make them feel better, by proving that sometimes, love isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and sometimes, you are better off alone.
Take Shakira for example. The singer is currently going through a messy break-up with former soccer star Gerard Pique — and every cringeworthy detail is being played out in public.
The former couple announced the end of their 11-year relationship via a joint statement last year, but that’s the very last time the two global stars have put on a united front post-split.
Let’s put it this way, they aren’t exactly following in Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s footsteps and enjoying a “conscious uncoupling”.
Shakira and Gerard, who share sons, Milan and Sasha, issued a joint statement on June 6, 2022 announcing the end of their romance. While things seemed amicable, it quickly turned sour.
Following the split announcement, it was then reported Gerard had struck up a romance with then 22-year-old Clara Chia Marti — something Shakira wasn’t too happy about and she was quick to reference the relationship in her new song called BZRP Music Sessionsvol 53 which included the lyrics,
“I’m worth two 22s.you traded a Ferrari for a Twingo.you traded a Rolex for a Casio…”
Gerard made sure he cashed in his ex’s revenge song by persuading Casio to become sponsors of the Kings League and he also turned up to work in a Renault Twingo.
Shakira herself has alluded to Pique’s alleged adultery in her music, and it’s been reported that she found out about his alleged cheating when she returned home from travelling to find an empty jam jar — despite neither her ex nor her kids liking the preserve, according to multiple South American news outlets.
Shownews Today reports allegations that it was unlikely that the jam would have been eaten by Gerard, as he apparently does not like jam, and so she deduced that he was“cheating”.
Meanwhile, the former couple’s split turned into a family feud last month, as Shakira reportedly displayed a witch mannequin facing her ex mother-in-law’s house
Gerard’s mum Montserrat Bernabeu reportedly asked one of Shakira’s staff to turn the witch around so it wouldn’t face towards her house, which is on the same street, according to Spanish show Mas Vale Tarde.
Thankfully, the pair have signed a child custody agreement that will avoid them warring in court over their two children.
However, two famous warring exes who are very much ready to battle it out in court are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
The pair, who share six kids Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twinsvivienne and Knox, announced their split in 2016 and have been locked in a bitter legal dispute ever since.
Jolie filed for divorce from
Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences. She accused him of physically abusing Maddox Pittjolie while he was intoxicated, but he was cleared of all charges by the LA Department of Children and Family Services and the FBI.
Pitt and Jolie have since endured a long custody battle over their six children with the latter’s lawyers claiming Pitt had not paid her“meaningful” child support, though his representation rebutted that he had in fact paid her more than $1.3 million in contributions over a span of two years and that Pitt gave Jolie an $8 million loan.
While a judge officially declared in 2019 that their marriage was over, the details of their divorce still needed to be worked out, and the dispute over their children’s custody is still ongoing.

and incoherent, according to a report by the Associated Press.
They finalised their divorce in 2010 after almost a year of highly publicised scandal and intrigue about their relationship.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West married in 2014 in an opulent ceremony in Italy. However, things turned rocky for the power couple as Kim filed for divorce on February 19, 2021.
She cited“irreconcilable differences”as the reason for the couple’s split, and stated that no amount of counselling would help repair their relationship. In October that year, Kardashian hosted Saturday Night Live and reportedly began dating cast member Pete Davidson.
Later that month, Kanye West posted a series of Instagram posts aimed at Davidson, referring to him as ‘Skete’ and sharing text messages from him to the comedian saying that Davidson would never meet his children.
The posts were later deleted. West also released a music video for his song Eazy, which appeared to show him burying the SNL star alive. The lyrics to the song directly reference Davidson by name. And despite her ex-husband’s recent shock “marriage” to Yeezy employee Bianca Censori Kim insists she has never been better and is now in her“happy era”.
Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher were together between 2003 and 2011, a lengthy relationship in terms of many Hollywood pairings.the pair married in 2005 and divorced in 2015, reportedly due to Kutcher having an affair. Moore wrote in her memoir, Inside Out, that she tried to“put (Kutcher) first”in their relationship, and agreed to bring outside people into their sexual relationship at his request.
“Because we had brought in a third party into our relationship, Ashton said, that blurred the lines and, to some extent, justified what he’s done,”moore said, alluding to allegations that he had been unfaithful in their relationship.
She also wrote that Kutcher had cheated on her a second time with a 21-year-old woman in 2011 while she was filming the movie Another Happy Day. The couple’s 15-year age difference also contributed to the downfall of their relationship, Moore admitted.
“I was a forty-year-old who had had a big life, with a big ex-husband (Bruce Willis) and three children,”moore wrote.“ashton’s adult life was just beginning — both his personal life and his career. I didn’t see all that because I was inside of it. I just felt like a fifteen-year-old girl hoping somebody liked me.” Kutcher is now married to Mila Kunis.
After longtime couple Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced their split in August 2019, things got a bit, er, messy to say the least. Miley quickly moved on with MTV reality star Kaitlynn Carter while Liam was left heartbroken.
“Liam hit the roof when photos emerged of Kait and Miley hooking up,”a source exclusively told In Touch at the time. Liam officially filed for divorce. However, Miley recently released her new single Flowers, a break-up track and music video, on her ex-husband’s birthday. And it wasn’t long before social media was awash with claims that Hemsworth cheated. ■ …
