DRESSES TO

Here are the most memorable red carpet looks… By Rachel Beresford

-

Awards season is officially upon us which means one thing and one thing only — it’s time to take a look at all the fashion on the red carpet. Forgot about the winners and the speeches, we can’t help but run the rule over all the dresses worn by our favourite stars as they turn heads in designer gowns.

And over the years there have been plenty of looks which have captured our imagination — many of which we still talk about today.

So this week we’re taking a look back at the awards gowns that have had us talking for years...

Back in 1999, Gwyneth Paltrow’s name was the one on everybody’s lips as she turned heads at that year’s Academy Awards.

The fresh-faced actress was nominated for her role in Shakespeare In Love and after shining on the red carpet in a pink Ralph Lauren number, she went on to win the Oscar for Best Actress. However, her look caused mixed reviews from the press, even though the style compared to that of actress and fashionista Grace Kelly.

Nonetheless, the dress was widely copied after the event, and Paltrow was credited for bringing pink back into fashion.

Gwyn, of course, is no stranger to stunning looks and she proved to be on the money once again at the 2021 Academy Awards as she looked all white on the night in a Tom Ford number — an immaculate and uncluttered look.

In 2001, Julia Roberts turned heads in a vintagevalentino gown, worn to the

Oscars.

It was a big night for the actress who picked up her first Oscar for her role in Erin Brockovich.

The black and white velvet and satin dress was classic and elegant and still stands the test of time today as one of the most timeless

Academy

Awards looks.
