With Google searches related to coloured mascara skyrocketing by more than 5,000%, it’s clear this vibrant trend is taking the beauty world by storm.

But what’s behind the explosive mascara, and why is it stealing the spotlight?

Saffron Hughes, the make-up artist at Falseeyelashes.co.uk, has shared why coloured mascara is the secret to elevating anyone’s eyes, as well as how to pick the perfect shade for you...

Why is coloured mascara gaining momentum?

Saffron said,“the resurgence of coloured mascara comes as no surprise, given its remarkable ability to enhance eyes with depth, dimension, and a vibrant splash of colour.

“When you carefully select a shade that complements your natural eye colour, you instantly brighten and intensify your gaze, making your eyes more alluring.

“However, beyond its aesthetic appeal, coloured mascara offers something more: it’s incredibly fun to play with. This explains why it’s gaining so much traction on Tiktok and Instagram.

“Coloured mascara injects fun and vibrancy into even the simplest of make-up looks, enabling people to express their individuality and personality through the power of make-up.

“Whether you’re feeling bold and adventurous or subtle and understated, coloured mascara provides a versatile canvas for self-expression.”

The best coloured mascara for complimenting your eyes

Saffron said,“with the right shade, you can complement your natural eye colour and create stunning looks that stand out.

“Coloured mascara works by utilising the principles of complementary colours on the colour wheel.

“These are opposite each other on the wheel, and when paired together, they create a striking contrast that enhances each other’s intensity.”

First time wearing coloured mascara? Here are Saffron’s top tips:

1. Prep your lashes

Start with clean, dry lashes to ensure smooth application.you can curl your lashes beforehand for added lift and volume.

2. Separate lashes with a simple trick

Before applying the rst layer of mascara, wipe off excess product from the mascara wand with a tissue. This ensures the lashes remain separated. You can apply your rst coat.

3. Focus on the brushing direction

After your initial mascara coat has dried, enhance your lashes further for maximum length and volume by focusing on every individual lash. Concentrate on brushing your outer lashes outward, avoiding an upward motion. Then gently sweep your inner lashes toward the inner corner of your eyebrow. This technique creates the illusion of fuller lashes by extending them in a straight line from their roots.

4. Focus on the brushing direction

When applying extra mascara after your base layer, pay special attention to the outer third of your lashes. For an even wider-eyed appearance, apply pencil eyeliner along the outer third of your lash line. This technique enhances the thickness of the lashes on the outer third of your eye, resulting in a broader and more youthful look.

5. Don’t forget the bottom lashes

Don’t forget to apply coloured mascara to your bottom lashes for a more cohesive look. Use a light hand to avoid clumping and smudging.
