There’s no denying that the lives of stars — and their relationships — have often kept fans hooked. Especially when there’s a celebrity romance that takes everyone by surprise. This week, we’re taking a look at some of the unexpected famous couples from the last few years…
Brookside’s Claire Sweeney and Ricky Hatton met while lming Dancing on Ice earlier this year — where the pair are said to have hit it off once they hung up their skates.
At the start of last month, a source told The Mirror the chemistry between the pair was“electric”and that they had been “dating for weeks”.
And it looks like things have gone from strength to strength since then. In May, the couple shared a series of snaps from a sun-soaked holiday to Tenerife together — and at the BAFTA TV Awards last week, the former boxer shared some sweet insight into their relationship.
Ricky, who was nominated for Single Documentary for his Sky Original documentary Hatton, told the Sun on the red carpet, “I’ve met someone who I get on with like a house on re. “She is just like me. We spend our whole time laughing together. Claire is just like me — she’s so down to earth.
“She would never turn a picture down with a fan and she’s always got time for people. That’s what I really like about her.
“We’ve just been having good fun.”
Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet raised fans’ eyebrows when the rumours of a romance between them began in early 2023.
The pair were rst linked in April 2023, but kept things low-key during the early months — and it wasn’t until September that year that they stepped out together at a Beyoncé concert.
Eagle-eyed social media users also noticed someone who appeared to be the Wonka actor in the background of one of the photos from the Kardashians’ annual Christmas bonanza.
The couple attended the Golden Globes together this year — and while they didn’t want the red carpet together, they were snapped side-by-side inside at the ceremony.
And while there have been plenty of rumours about their relationship through the last few months — from them calling time on their romance to them taking the next step — the duo have kept their relationship largely under wraps since then.
Bill Murray and Kelis had a whirlwind summer romance last year before ultimately calling it quits.
The former couple, who had a 28-year age gap between them, are said to have met in 2022 — but it wasn’t until June last year that things were rumoured to have turned romantic. The pair sparked romance rumours when the Ghostbusters actor was reportedly seen backstage at the Mighty Hoopla festival, where Kelis performing.
And while they kept their rumoured relationship out of the public eye, speculation that they had called it quits began later that summer — with reports later claiming they had amicably gone their separate ways.
Avril Lavigne and Tyga sparked dating rumours last February when they were photographed out for dinner with pals.
Although it was said at the time
that they were strictly pals, the following month they were photographed sharing a kiss at Paris Fashion Week.
People Magazine reported at the time that their relationship was “very new” and “very casual” — even with the rapper gifting her a custom-made diamond necklace said to be worth $80,000.
The couple called time on their relationship in June that year — and while they brie y reconciled, they went their separate ways again that autumn.
Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles met on the set of Don’t Worry Darling in the autumn of 2020, which Olivia both directed and starred in.
And the pair caused a stir when, four months later, they stepped out for the wedding of Harry’s manager — and appeared to con rm their relationship in the process.
Olivia told Vogue of the relationship in December 2021, “It’s obviously really tempting to correct a false narrative.
“I think what you realise is that when you’re really happy, it doesn’t matter what strangers think about you. All that matters to you is what’s real, and what you love, and who you love.”
A few months after the press tour for Don’t Worry Darling came to an end in late 2022, it was reported that they were taking a “break”.
Taylor Swift’s love life is rarely out of the news but her relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce really grabbed people’s attention when they went official last year.
Swift, who is currently on the European leg of her ERAS World Tour, has previously been involved with many high pro le stars — but never a sportsperson.
Relationships with Joe Jonas, Tom Hiddleston, Joe Alwyn and a brief encounter with Matty Healy have all zzled out over the years before she picked up with Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce last year.
Since, the pair have been going strong with Swift ying back early from Japan after a concert to support her beau as he won the Super Bowl this year.
And most recently, the footballer has been spotted cheering Swift on as she performed in Paris.
Rita Ora and Taika Waititi fuelled romance rumours in April 2021 when she posted a series of photos highlighting “good times, memories, random things on my phone and the ones I love”.
At the time, Rita was said to be in Australia

Fans began to wonder if the duo had headed down the aisle in August 2022, when they were spotted with gold bands on.
The Letyou Love Me singer later appeared on Jamie Winstone’s Greatest Night Ever podcast, where she opened up about their“fairytale”romance.
She said,“i’ve always wanted the fairytale, that’s what I grew up loving.
“For me, it was always about that love, nding a partner, so I’m really happy I did.”
