Robins: we are in less of a mess!

-

MARk ROBInS is still a happy man despite marking five years as Coventry boss with a painful defeat.

Robins (below) took over a mess when he walked through the doors of the Ricoh Arena in March 2017, with the Sky Blues were on their way down to League Two.

But he returned promising to build for the future and despite losing to Swansea, Coventry remain just four points off the Championship play-off places.

“I had hoped we might be in the Premier League by now but I guess it has only been five years,” said Robins.

“Realistically it is a remarkable achievement to be where we are now.

“Apart from this result it has been an outstanding season and the players deserve a lot of credit.”

It is a far cry from Robins’ first stint at the club

that lasted just 146 days of the 2012/13 campaign.

But two promotions and an EFL Trophy win later and the club is sniffing promotion back to the top flight.

He said: “It’s difficult to stay in any job in football for that long and you need a little luck on the way.

“But there’s no doubt this club is a far better place than when I walked through the door five years ago.”

Swansea produced probably their best first half display of the season to have this game wrapped up early.

Buoyed

And they were buoyed by a return to form of two key attacking threats.

Jamie Paterson grabbed his first since falling out with the club when a January move to QPR fell through.

Ireland international Michael Obafemi took his tally to four goals in six games with the first brace of his career, before Gustavo Hamer grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.

Obafemi is aiming for more goals and said: “It has taken a while for me to settle in, being so far from home. But I’ve really settled in now and I’m enjoying the way the manager wants me to play.”
