Wolves devour sorry hornets
New Leeds boss Marsch had been hoping to celebrate his first home game in charge with a win to ease the club’s relegation fears.
But it ended in a spanking from Aston Villa and home fans chanting the name of his predecessor Marcelo Bielsa, as Coutinho inspired Villa to their third straight win.
Coutinho opened the scoring with his fourth goal since joining on-loan from Barcelona and went on to torment Leeds from start to finish.
Further strikes from Matty Cash and Calum Chambers rubbed more salt into Leeds’ wounds, as Marsch made it back-to-back losses since taking charge of the strugglers.
Ground
It was a big night for Marsch, who was given a standing ovation before kick-off from all corners of the ground.
The American was looking to
And his side’s defensive frailties were on show again inside 22 minutes, when Coutinho was left unmarked inside the area and allowed to run onto Lucas Digne’s cross to stroke home the opening goal via the outstretched boot of Pascal Struijk.
Villa looked in complete control, with Danny Ings heading just wide and Illan Meslier called into action to keep out a free-kick from Douglas Luiz.
Woeful Watford pressed the self-destruct button yet again to put an even bigger question mark over their Premier league survival.
Wolves came into the game on the back of three successive defeats yet went in at half-time rubbing their hands three goals to the good.
Points
It was no more than they deserved but Watford did give them a helping hand.
It is now one win in 16 league games for the Hornets, a run that has seen them take just six points from the last available 48.
And the manner in which they found themselves 3-0 down with little more than 20 minutes on the clock had boss Roy Hodgson scratching his head.
Raul Jimenez started the ball rolling with a neat finish
