NO SILVA LINING AT COTTAGE

-

MARCO SILVA refused to lay into his Fulham side – despite a rare shocker.

The champions-elect suffered a second defeat of the campaign to Coventry and a seventh in total.

Gleeful Sky Blues fans chanted “Premier League, you’re having a laugh” as goals from Michael Rose, Viktor Gyokeres and Callum O’Hare sent them to a surprise three points.

But Fulham could still secure promotion with victory on Good Friday at Derby, depending on the outcome of Forest’s trip to Luton earlier in the day.

Silva said: “We lost the game due to individual mistakes and they punished us. We made it easy for them to create chances. It wasn’t our worst performance. But there were individual mistakes.

Challenge

“But am I angry with my players? No. I don’t feel the pressure, I hope our players don’t. We want to embrace the challenge.

“I’m confident we will fight for the three points next weekend.”

Coventry were deservedly ahead on 20 minutes as Rose headed in at the near post from Gustavo Hamer’s corner.

Four minutes later and the Sky Blues were two up thanks to a real howler by Marek Rodak.

The Fulham keeper should have easily saved Gyokeres 20-yarder but it went straight over him.

The Cottagers could have levelled as 38-goal Aleksandar Mitrovic’s header from Neco Williams’ cross was wonderfully saved by Simon Moore.

Then Neeskens Kebano hit the bar from another Williams cross.

But Silva’s men set up an interesting finish as sub Bobby De-Cordova Reid pulled one back eight minutes from time after a one-two with Josh Onomah.

It was game over in the third minute of stoppage time as Tim Ream lost the ball to Hamer who squared for O’Hare to convert easily.

But there was still time for Carvalho to hit the bar.
