DUNDALK JERSEYS FOR MND

- ■■Mark McCadden

DUNDALK will seek to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease research by auctioning off 24 match day jerseys.

The one-off top will have the logo for Watch Your Back MND, an organisation set up by Dundalk man Roy Taylor, who was diagnosed with MND in 2018 in place of jersey sponsor BetRegal.

The Lilywhites will wear the shirt for their April 22 clash with Shelbourne, and each player’s jersey will be auctioned ahead of the game.

A bucket collection will also take place on the night.

Roy, who represented Ireland with his band Jump The Gun at the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, said he was determined to bring something positive out of his diagnosis.

Roll

“When I was told I had MND, there were two things I could do: roll up in a ball or roll up my sleeves and try to do something about it,” said the dad of four.

“As a club, we believe that we have a responsibility to use our influence and reach to highlight and promote what is happening in our town and local community,” said Dundalk chief operating officer Martin Connolly.

“Roy and Seán (Woods, fellow MND campaigner) and their families have shown great courage over the past four years and we are calling on all of our supporters to get behind this fundraiser and help the Taylor family and the many other families around the country in their battle against Motor Neurone Disease.”

There are 24 jerseys available, 21 outfield and two goalkeeper, and one with ‘O’Donnell 6’ on the back.

The bidding for each jersey starts at €100, submitted to auction@ dundalkfc.com along with a contact name, number and your preferred jersey.
