Ruaidhrí KEEPS FEET ON GrOuNd
rUAiDHrÍ HigginS is not reading too much into Derry’s recent 4-0 hammering of St Pat’s.
The Candystripes produced a stunning 90 minutes at richmond Park 10 days ago to leave the Saints reeling.
But St Pat’s bounced straight back with a 4-0 win of their own, away to Drogheda United on Friday.
But Higgins (below) was not in the least bit surprised.
“We didn’t get carried away with our win at richmond Park, as we know the quality they have in their team,” he said.
“St Pat’s have some seriously good attacking options and we have to be ready for whatever they throw at us.
“They bounced back from that (defeat to us) with an equally emphatic win of their own in Drogheda.
Confidence
“That will give them great confidence coming here. but we possess a real goal threat, too.
“it’s important for us to keep the momentum going.”
And he added:
“We have players who can hurt any team and we will definitely go into the game looking to be positive and trying to win it.”
Saints manager Tim Clancy was thrilled with his side’s response at Drogheda, where 16-year-old Sam Curtis became the club’s youngest-ever starter.
Happy
“Our performance was far better and we were very happy with our night’s work,” said Clancy. “After last week’s performance against Derry, it’s probably a good thing we are facing them again so quickly. “We were disappointed (to lose 4-0 at home to Derry) and know it fell well below the standards we expect at this club. “We have to try to find consistency. There’s no better way to start finding that consistency than at the Brandywell.” Jack Malone (hip) joins Michael Duffy and Ciaron Harkin on Derry’s absentee list.
Jamie Lennon, Adam Murphy and ronan Coughlan are ruled out for St Pat’s.
