OUT OF TOON Bonham is so grateful to ‘Gouldy’

Manchester City trounced Watford in September 2019.

At 3pm, as the second half kicked off, the UK Government’s ‘severe alert’ sounded on mobile phones around the stadium, but it came an hour too late for Spurs.

The desperate Lloris was hooked at half-time with Newcastle lad Fraser Forster on to shore it up. It was claimed Lloris was injured. It is more likely that he is damaged beyond repair.

Pape Sarr lasted only 23 minutes before being withdrawn for Davinson Sanchez.

after the second goal, Spurs fans began to walk out high up in the away end. a 600-mile round trip to see a surrender like that first half, who could blame them. The remainers shouted: “We want Levy out.”

Inevitably, the Geordies dipped after the break. And who could blame them. It was a case of job done. There was no way this shambolic Tottenham side were ever going to rouse themselves from their ineptitude and apathy.

In fairness, Kane did salvage a consolation and a semblance of some pride with a solo drive at Schar, beating him for pace and tucking away 25th in the league with some aplomb.

But after a freshen up, sub Callum Wilson scored Newcastle’s sixth, just 65 seconds after coming on, for his 12th of the campaign.

Jack Bonham thanked Stoke goalkeeping coaching Jonathan Gould for helping him save Sory kaba’s potential match-winning penalty at cardiff city Stadium on Saturday.

Bonham was the first to acknowledge that his full-length dive to his left in the 62nd minute with the scores locked at 1-1 was down to Gould’s research.

The former celtic and Scotland keeper, son of former Bluebirds and Wales boss Bobby Gould, had done his homework on cardiff hotshot kaba and came up with the right formula to stop him scoring.

“Gouldy does his research and lets me know if someone’s got a pattern,” said Bonham. That helped me out, and so I have to give a shout out to him.

“he gave me the information and I followed it. If I’d gone the other way, the blame would have been going to him and I would have given him a little bit of stick!

Helped

“I’m happy to have kept it out, and that it helped us get a point. It’s been a disappointing season, and all of us know we’ve not reached the heights we were supposed to.”

kaba had already beaten

Bonham once, levelling things up after Josh Laurent’s headed opener for the visitors, with a shot that went between the legs of the Stoke stopper.

That took his goal tally since joining on loan at the end of January to eight in 13 games.

“Sory scored another goal, an important goal for us, and he was our man of the match — but just a bit more if he had scored the penalty,” said cardiff boss Sabri Lamouchi.

“But this is part of football. I’m happy with the performance and with my players, and now we will go to Rotherham (on Thursday) to try and do our best.”

The point lifted the Bluebirds three points clear of Reading in the third and final relegation slot with a game in hand.

Both Rotherham, who they face on Thursday, and neil Warnock’s huddersfield Town, who they host on Sunday, are around them in the table — one place above and one below — and the results in those two games will define their season.

one win from their final three games should see cardiff safe.
