IVER’ THE MOON!

- By Dave ARMITAGE

Goal hero Kelechi Iheanacho revealed the real star of the day as leicester held on to a crucial three points.

The relegation-threatened Foxes were hanging on for dear life to get their first win in nine games.

and Iheanacho made a bee-line for keeper Daniel Iversen the second the final whistle was blown.

a minute from the end, the Danish stopper had flung himself towards the top corner of his net to tip away ruben Neves’ free-kick.

and Iheanacho beamed: “People obviously talk about strikers but if you see what our goalkeeper did it was really important for us.

“That was a life-saver! Trust me. I just ran towards him because it was a great save and I recognised that.

“Neves is really good at those freekicks. It was nearly in.

“he made a great save — really important to us — so he was key to the win today.”

That key moment was enough to ensure Dean Smith was rewarded for a bold selection gamble for his first home game.

Smith crammed the side with forwards — and ended up seeing his full-backs come up trumps.

Decided

Belgian star Timothy Castagne popped up where he wasn’t really supposed to be to sweep home the 76th-minute goal which decided things.

Iheanacho had levelled the match with a penalty after it all looked like going horribly wrong thanks to Matheus Cunha giving Wolves a 13thminute lead.

Castagne strayed way further than expected to be in position to meet a cross from fellow full-back Victor

Kristiansen for the Foxes’ winner.

“Yes, I shouldn’t have been there,” Castagne grinned.

“I don’t usually arrive there but I saw the space for the cutback and it came perfectly.

“It was a case of right place at the right time. I knew when I touched it that it was good. That’s a very big three points.”

When Youri Tielemans was robbed to tee up Cunha’s early strike it looked like Smith’s emphasis on attack might have gone wrong.

Challenge

But it paid dividends just before half-time when Jamie Vardy tempted keeper Jose Sa into a challenge to win a vital penalty.

Tielemans stood on the spot but Iheanacho kept the ball firmly under his arm and eventually strode up to take it.

Iheanacho revealed that Vardy was the designated penalty-taker but had been injured in his collision with Sa.

“I had a discussion with Youri,” said Iheanacho. “It was a peaceful little chat! In the end we decided I would take it.

“Funny how we had all those forwards out there and a full-back gets the winner but it doesn’t matter who scores, we’re just happy it all worked out.”

leicester really shouldn’t have been left sweating at the end but had blown a few big chances.

Patson Daka fired a great opportunity straight at Sa and Kiernan Dewsbury-hall blazed over from close in.

If leicester could grab a win at fellow strugglers leeds tomorrow they could suddenly be staring at a way out of trouble.

That disastrous return of a single point from 27 in a horror run leading up to this match had seen them nosedive into the bottom three.

They may have climbed out only on goal difference, but suddenly there is a glimpse of light.
