Raspadori wins if for Partenopei

- ■■Euro Round-up

A GOAL from Giacomo Raspadori three minutes into time added on at the end of the game earned Serie A champions-elect Napoli a priceless 1-0 win over Juventus in Turin last night.

It saw Napoli extend their lead at the top of the table to 17 points as they took another significant step to being crowned champions.

Raspadori’s winner added insult to injury from Juve’s perspective with Angel Di Maria having a goal chalked off late on. As did Dusan Vlahovic.

After a lengthy VAR review, Di Maria’s 83rd-minute effort was ruled out for a foul in the build-up to the ‘goal’.

The Partenopei had a great weekend. They also profited from a shock 1-0 defeat for nearest rivals Lazio against Torino on Saturday followed by last night’s win against their fiercest rivals.

Wiped

Juve find themselves two points off second spot after their 15-point penalty over transfer dealings was wiped out earlier in the week.

Both sides struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the first half, but Victor Osimhen, Serie A’s top scorer, came alive after the break.

He clipped the post and then wasted a couple of big chances before Di Maria thought he had made the breakthrough for Juve.

Meanwhile, Barcelona returned to winning ways as Ferran Torres’ first-half effort secured the La Liga leaders a 1-0 home win over Atletico Madrid yesterday.

After a 4-0 loss to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey and 0-0 draws with Girona and Getafe in the league, Barca were almost behind in the opening minute when former player Antoine Griezmann hit the bar.

Torres then netted what proved to be the winner in the 44th minute, collecting the ball from Raphinha and drilling it past Jan Oblak to go 11 points clear of near challengers Real Madrid.

Atletico stay in third spot.
