KILDARE BLOW AS CONWAY RETIRES
KILDARE’S Fergal Conway has retired from intercounty football due to a persistent knee injury.
The news is a blow for Lilywhites boss Glenn Ryan given the experience and versatility that Conway brought to the set- up.
The Celbridge man made 98 appearances for his county at senior level.
A keen rugby player with Barnhall when he was younger, Conway eventually focused on Gaelic Football.
He played for Maynooth in the Sigerson Cup and, for Kildare, at minor and Under-21 level.
Leader
He won a Leinster Under-21 championship in 2013, before making his senior county debut in the O’Byrne Cup the following year.
In a statement, Kildare GAA thanked Conway for his “outstanding service,” adding that he was “an exceptional leader on and off the field and represented his county with great honour, pride and distinction.”
Kildare will play in Division 2 of the National Football League in 2023 after they were relegated.
