TYRONE V MONAGHAN

Healy Park, tomorrow, 4pm RTE2

-

MONAGHAN had a Jeckyl and hyde spring.

They were fortunate Mayo needed nothing from their final round league encounter in Castlebar.

Monaghan won to secure a 10th season in Division 1.

Tyrone seemed to find their mojo after turning over all-Ireland champions Kerry at omagh, going on to win three games in a row.

Conn Kilpatrick (inset) is in serious form, while Darragh Canavan is flying and looks the real deal.

Will Monaghan chance one of their youngsters on him — Ryan o’Toole or Thomas McPhillips?

It would be no surprise if Canavan scored or created a decisive goal.

The return of forgotten man Michael o’neill is interesting.

he was a sticky defender who started in all the big games in the 2021 all-Ireland triumph, but has been injured pretty much ever since.

This means the only players missing from the starting line-up for the ’21 final win over Mayo are niall Sludden (on the bench) and Conor McKenna (back in australia).

The impressive Cormac Quinn and Canavan — Errigal Ciarán clubmates — are the two men in. Quinn scored a goal from defence against Monaghan in Tyrone’s victory in Clones.

Frank Burns has been sweeping with good success in recent weeks.

Paudie Hamspey could resume Conor McManus marking duties, having done well in the past, although Monaghan may hold their talisman back.

The other big match up is who takes Jack McCarron.

Ronan Mcnamee has done well on him in the past and could be the man.

Conor Meyler versus Stephen o’hanlon looks a very likely duel.

A lot depends on which Monaghan turns up.
