ROSCOMMON v MAYO

Tomorrow (4pm): Roscommon v Mayo, Dr Hyde Park, S Hurson (Tyrone) ROSCOMMON beat Mayo in last year’s Connacht quarter- nal, but we’ve seen ample evidence since of teams being incredibly at after playing in a League nal the weekend before.

Whether it’s physical or mental, the reset has proved problematic.

Mayo went full strength in New York, and blew their opponents away with Ryan O’donoghue hitting 1-13, but they also still shipped two goals and look wide open up the middle at times.

Roscommon lacked the bite they brought early in Division 1 last year and were relegated.

HOME DRAW VERDICT:

Mayo

They were the lowest scorers in Division 1 with just over 13 points per game, and bar Enda Smith and Diarmuid Murtagh have lacked punch.

Cathal Heneghan and Daire Cregg could give them that, but Mayo have a lot of strong, athletic defenders.

Ciaran Murtagh and the underrated Cian Mckeon are losses, but Ben O’carroll’s movement is the biggest miss.

They’ll have to score goals, but do they have that potent counter attacking threat from defence to do that, that the very elite sides possess?

Today (4pm): Fitzgerald Stadium, N Mooney (Cavan) HOW will Kerry cover for injured full-back Jason Foley?

It looks like Tadhg Morley will play at number three, where he operated under Peter Keane, Gavin White will play at number six and Sean O’brien on the wing.

The modern day number six attacks at will, so White will hardly be found wanting if he operates there.

Graham O’sullivan could slot in at number three with Morley’s at six, as his sweeper role has been a pillar of Kerry’s set-up in Jack O’connor’s tenure.

HOME VERDICT: KERRY v CORK GAAGO DRAW

strongly with three wins and a draw, but Meath (win) and Armagh (draw), had nothing to play for.

Chris Og Jones is scoring more, while Conor Corbett appears to be the man they’re looking to for the additional

repower to take the next step.

It’s unlikely Cork will be found wanting athletically, but can they hit the high conversion rates you’d expect from the Clifford brothers and Sean O’shea?

And can they combat the lightning fast Kerry kicking transition game, which opens up defences?
