SARAH’S SCORCHERS

-

Greyho und fans can get a glimpse of 2021 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby champion Susie Sapphire in action this evening as this superstar makes her 2022 debut at HQ.

This Owen McKenna trained daughter of Droopys Jet– Jetstream Lynx has been sensational since she started her career and still has youth on her side as a November 2019 whelp.

Susie is the first bitch to win both the Oaks and the Derby.

She was the fastest ever Derby winner in a time of 29.18 and became the first greyhound to go through the competition unbeaten since 2009.

Her recent solo trials of 18.57 and 28.31 suggest she is in rude health for owner Peter Comerford.

Susie takes her chances in race 10 from trap three with her early pace likely to see her take up an early lead and make all.

One Time Only races from trap two for trainer Thomas O’Donovan. He is yet to register a win at Shelbourne Park but has only raced at the Dublin track twice.

Quick

Shelbourne Park Race 3 – Trap 5 Gizmo Cash Race 5 – Trap 1 Swanley Smasher

Race 7 – Trap 5 Show Business Race 8 – Trap 6 Auxerre Race 9 – Trap 6 Barefoot Supremo

Race 10 – Trap 3 Susie Sapphire

Race 11 – Trap 1 Jacob Tashadelek BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Ante Post Selections Susie Sapphire 25/1 Jacob Tashadelek 66/1

He was quick away in most heats before going on to the claim the big Laurels title at Curreheen Park last October.

Romeo Magico can be slick from traps so he could be a danger. All six runners are inside seeds so it will be rush into that first bend for a rails pitch.

Race 11 looks a competitive affair with recent winner Pierno going for two wins on the bounce from trap four.

I don’t think I have ever seen him break as fast as he did last month when he won over the 575 yards in a blistering 31.08. He rocketed from traps and really relishes for extra few yards.

He steps back in trip here to 550 but I don’t see that being a problem. I do, however, see his rivals being a major problem as this is a hot race.

Jacob Tashadelek races from trap one for Con Guiney with this speedy son of Droopys SydneyNina Tashadelek also on the hunt for successive wins.

He was awesome when winning over the trip last month in 29.55 so he is hard to dismiss.

Last year’s Derby finalist, Jackslittlething, is in trap two with many fans eagerly awaiting his arrival to HQ.

He had his first run last week at Clonmel which would have been a nice blow out for him ahead of this race with the BresBet Easter Cup the likely target for him along with these rivals. Beach Avenue has been busy lately so this might be on the hot side for him, but he will be flying home.

Flying

Allforthebest in trap six is another who will be flying home.

Preference is given to Jacob on the rails.

I’ve a soft spot for Auxerre, with this Oliver Shields trained tracker in with a chance from trap six in race 8 over 550 yards. He hasn’t had any luck on his last couple of runs but takes a drop in grade so should be able to beat these rivals.

Graham Holland thinks a lot of Gaytime Milo in trap two, with this Stephanie O’Connell owned greyhound having his fair share of injuries. He likes the inside and has shown plenty of speed over this trip in the past with a 29.59 on his card from last year.

Ballybough Champ in trap one is due a win too but must come away racing. I’ll take a chance on Auxerre.

Barefoot Supremo ran awesome last month when coming from behind the triple Oaks winner Clona Skye and win in 28.69.

I’m not sure he can do the same from trap six in race 9 but he is well drawn for trainer Paul Hennessy.
