CARRICK TO WIN ALDO IT’S TOUGH

-

IRISH Sprint Cup champion Carrick aldo ran a cracking race last week in the opening round of the tote Gold Cup.

trained by David Murray, this son of Droopys Sydney/minnies hazel showed plenty of early gears from trap five and soon set the pace over the 525-yard trip for owner thomas Glynn.

he went on to win by two lengths to Scotty Scheffler in a fast time of 28.18, the second fastest of the night.

aldo races from trap five again in race 9 with his 2.08 sectional good enough to see him hit the front but this is a hot heat.

We have heat winner Jetstream breeze in trap one, who came from behind to win in 28.60 for trainer Marie Gilbert.

tommys hewick wears the stripes for trainer Michael Donnelly who looks a danger after the early gears he showed before falling victim to Jetstream breeze down the back straight.

then we have Droopys edel in trap two who ran a blinder last week for trainer Ian reilly when second to Deadly Style in 28.50.

throw in lotto other news and Scotty Scheffler and you have yourself an extremely competitive heat.

I’ll take a chance on Carrick aldo but he won’t be winning by much as there is too much pace in this contest for a sprint expert like him.

another holiday was the 2/5 favourite to win his heat in the opening round for Michael J o’donovan.

Dominate

he broke well and set the pace from trap one but checked at the third bend which allowed optic Chico dominate the race in a very good 28.28 for trainer robert Gleeson.

Chico went on to win by three and a half lengths, but I wouldn’t look too much into another holiday’s defeat as he hadn’t raced since the end of December so he needed the run.

he is my fancy here to return to winning ways for his owner Master Jack roche but De Foxy Devil in trap three looks a big danger for trainer Marie Gilbert as well as heat winner Glengar Martha in trap six.

this Pat buckley-trained lady raced to victory in facile fashion after a fast start from trap five. She went on to win by 11 lengths in 28.42 to De Foxy Devil but there were some traffic problems in behind so I think he will run a bigger race tonight. another holiday is the one to beat, however.

Deadly Style produced an eyecatching performance when beating Droopys edel in 28.50.

trained by Michael J o’donovan, this son of Droopys Sydney/ Coolavanny abba just held on by a length but he showed loads of pace from trap six so he looks a big player in race 8.

Produce

the one I fancy, though, is road exile in trap five for trainer Pat buckley.

he only managed third place last week but if he can produce one of his electric starts then he can hold off the likes of Mikeys Millie in trap four and hukum in trap three.

It was fantastic to see ballymac Finn win for liam Dowling.

he races in the opening heat and this former boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby runner-up will take a lot of stopping if he hits the front again as he clocked 28.17, the fastest of the night.

he should be able to follow up that victory with another win but optic Chico won’t make things easy for him in trap six.

Corn Cuchulainn champion kinturk road returns to hq in race 7 for trainer/owner Frank thornton. on his best form he is the one to beat while blackstone lacey looks the one in race 12 for trainer Michael J o’donovan.

the 2024 time Greyhound nutrition Cork Cup kicks off at Curraheen Stadium tonight with €5,000 up for grabs. there are seven heats in this a1 competition with the likes of Move to Soon in race 3 and Droopys ailsa in race 7, ones to keep an eye on.
