AYE RIGHT’S DAY FINALLY

- ■■Jason HEAVEY

THE consistent AYE RIGHT (3.25, nb) can gain a deserved success on a cracking Kelso card today.

The 11-year-old — who ran in the 2022 Cheltenham Gold Cup — has put in three solid runs this season in veterans’ events.

He was unlucky to bump into Sam Brown on a going day at Warwick in the final of the veterans’ series on his last start.

But he should gain his reward for consistency in the Listed bet365 Premier Chase.

It is 27 months since he won a race but he has won three times at Kelso.

The track has missed most of the heavy rain so conditions should be fine for Aye Right to fend off Monbeg Genius and Minella Drama.

The bet365 Premier Novices’ Hurdle is super competitive and BRUCIO (2.17) can make the most of her mares’ allowance.

She has found her mojo with cosy victories at Catterick and Leopardstown and gets a handy 9lb from Jango Baie.

Her 7-1 price holds more appeal than Nicky Henderson’s short-price favourite.

There is plenty of each-way value in the race, including Rich Spirit (20-1).

ITV are showing four races from the Borders track and ITSO FURY (1.42) looks a safe bet in the first televised race.

The spring-heeled COMMODORE (1.20) makes his seasonal bow at Newbury in the veterans’ chase.

Venetia Williams has started to find form again and her staying grey goes well fresh.

The Betvictor Greenwood Gold Cup is competitive, with HIGHSTAKESPLAYER (1.55) holding the aces.

Strong

Unbeaten over fences, he is a strong traveller and jumps well and the handicapper may not have caught up with him.

The Grimthorpe Chase is the highlight at Doncaster, where there are three races on ITV.

There are plenty of good ground horses in the field who may be disappointed by conditions which may ride tacky and testing.

So DOCPICKEDME (3.40) is worth a punt at around 16-1. He beat The Edgar Wallace at Wetherby and has since had a wind op.

Stamina and ability to handle soft ground are assured.

The classy TOMMY’S OSCAR (2.35) can regain the winning thread back at two miles, while the Listed mares’ novice hurdle looks wide open — have an each-way punt on PINOT ROUGE (3.10) at a silly price (25-1).

CURLEY FINGER (2.05) is fancied to land the nap.

Becky Menzies’ (left) gelding has looked transformed winning his last two races.
