BREFFNI ARE TOO STRONG

- Cavan 3-16 Roscommon 0-7 Division 4 Camogie

TYRONE preserved their Division Two status in the Lidl Ladies NFL as Wexford were consigned to Division Three for 2022.

Tyrone went on a goal rampage at Lannleire GFC in Dunleer, shooting seven in the opening half to ease to a 11-7 to 0-11 victory.

Niamh O’Neill ( pictured) got a hat- trick, with Chloe McCaffrey and Niamh McGirr shoot ing two apiece and Aoibhinn McHugh, Niamh Hughes, Regan Fay and Grainne Rafferty also finding the net.

In Division Three, meanwhile, Wicklow won the fight to stay up as Fermanagh were relegated on a 1-13 to 1-12 scoreline.

Player

In what was a repeat of the 2020 TG4 All-Ireland Junior Final, Marie Kealy was the key player as she hit 1- 8 for Wicklow.

Appropriately, it was the Baltinglass player who landed the winner when she pointed late at Kinnegad, where the lead changed hands several times.

Kealy’s goal hauled back a Fermanagh side who had raced into a 0- 4 to 0- 0 lead after eight

A SECOND-HALF blitz ensured Cavan added their name to the Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League Division Four roll of honour.

The Breffni were one of the stories of camogie last year as a result of their Championship exploits after a decade’s absence, annexing the All-Ireland junior A title before just falling short to Armagh in the premier junior decider.

They were made to work hard by Roscommon in the first half, leading by 1-5 to 0- 4 at the interval thanks to Niamh Keenaghan’s goal, but raced away with the game upon the resumption.

Occasions

Indeed Cavan keeper Laura Bambrick, an AllIreland underage winner with Kilkenny, had to make a smart save from Nicola Crean and needed to be alert on a number of occasions in that opening half.

But Jimmy Greville’s team opened up in the second half and two late goals by Keenaghan and

Shanise Fitzsimons confirmed what had by that stage, become inevitable.
