Prue’s colour spark

-

BAKE Off’s bright spark Prue Leith hopes her wardrobe inspires other women to dump their dull clothes.

The 81-year-old said: “Women say to me a lot, ‘You’re so brave. I’d never dream of wearing those colours.

‘I used to when I was young but it’s not suitable for me now because I’m over 50.’

Braver

“What rubbish! Since when is colour reserved for children? I like colour.

“I hope I’ve inspired more older women to be braver with colour. Like most old people, I don’t feel all that old.” been on our knees as a nation in a pandemic, so let him play and put smiles and faces on people that will give us all a lift for the rest of 2022.”

American star Brooks shot to international fame 31 years ago with his 1990 chart- topping, award-winning song Friends In Low Places.

Economy

Analysts believe his five concerts over two weekends would be worth an estimated €50million to the economy and Dublin City Council has already approved three gigs.

But residents’ groups like the Croke Park Residents’ Association and the District 7 Community Alliance are seeking clarifications about the gig proposed dates of September 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17.

“How could that be bad? It’s only a pity that he’s planning just five gigs and not 10.

“Imagine the economic boost that would generate for the whole country.

“It would be a real shame if these concerts don’t happen.”

Support

Even Taoiseach Micheal Martin seemed this week to give his backing to the gigs, saying that “people do need access to concerts and to iconic stars”.

Trevor added: “The Taoiseach is making sense. I don’t normally have great time for politicians, but I agree with him on this one.

“A lot of musicians, including myself, were out of work for a long time because of the pandemic.

“Garth Brooks here would be a great boost for pubs, restaurants, hotels, taxi drivers and musicians.

“Artists and singers around the country would have bookings in pubs up and down the country.

“It’s a no-brainer. Brooks can even come and stay in my house, if it means he can play.

“Surely it’s worth it to see smiles back on people’s faces and make them happy after what we’ve all been going through during the pandemic? I’m all for it.”

His band Trevor Smith and Friends In Low Places have been going for 12 years, but haven’t played since February 2020, although they are due tour next month.

Brooks told his Irish fans during a video on Facebook this week: “I promise you: the second I know whether or not it’s going to happen or not, I will let you know.”

However, industrial disputes mediator Kieran Mulvey, who was involved in talks with residents in 2014, said they cannot “return to the madness” of seven years ago.

Talks are due in Dublin next Thursday between residents and management.
