IHF President Danielle Kennedy, said: “As we learned during the lockdown, hair salons are a vital thread in the fabric of local communitie­s, especially in rural Ireland.

“Our proposals are aimed at supporting these local salons, generating economic activity in small towns and villages and creating new jobs for talented young people,” she said.

Meanwhile, one in five owners of tourism businesses have warned they face closure due to the problem of trying to find the right staff.

Employers in the sector have expressed concern about stress levels as almost 9 out of 10 admit experienci­ng difficulty in recruiting new staff.
