Downer album brings in colour

-

FRESH off the release of their new album, Downer Disco, last

Friday, The Crayon

Set are hopeful it will make a big splash on the Irish music charts this weekend.

The Dublin-based band’s new album is filled with their trademark expertly- crafted pop songs & dual girl/ boy vocal interplay, but they’ve spiced things up with some synth-pop & electronic goodness.

Since recording the album in 2019, Downer Disco carries a variety of different influences that the founder and main songwriter Robert Baker was desperate to include.

“The idea behind the band, as the name suggests, was for it to incorporate different ‘colours’ i.e. musical styles and influences, for it not to be confined by any boundaries or genres,” he said.

Evolution

“The album has a happy-sad dynamic going on — we’re always trying to write & record the perfect pop song but lyrically the songs couldn’t help but reflect the increasingly stressedout, messed-up world we breathe in every day.

“So, hopefully it will be a life-long project and it can morph and evolve even if some members come and go. But I am very reliant on the other crayons adding their magic.”

To celebrate the launch of ‘Downer Disco’ The Crayon Set will play their first headline show in over two years at The Grand Social, Dublin on October 7.

Tickets are €9, with a special student price of €7 and are currently available at www.ticketmaster.ie
