COMMUTER SAYS ‘NO’

- ■ ■Dan DANAHER

A WEST Clare student has been forced to spend almost five hours on weekdays getting buses and family transport to and from Miltown Malbay to Galway City due to the student accommodation crisis.

A group of students protested outside the Dáil last week to highlight the third-level accommodation crisis, which they say is worse than ever.

In previous years, students found it difficult to get accommodation in Dublin.

However, this is no longer an issue that is confined to the capital — and students are finding it extremely difficult to get accommodation in Galway, Limerick and Cork.

Fionn Sexton (21) has been forced to commute daily from Miltown Malbay to Galway City due to the lack of affordable student accommodation since September 6.

“Commuting precludes me from a lot of things. I am a member of the book club and Ogra Fianna Fail in Galway, which have fallen by the wayside because of the sheer amount of time that is taken up just getting to and from college,” he told The

Star.
