MURRAY’S IN MINT CONDITION

VINNY PERTH reckons Dundalk fans are ready to see the best of Sean Murray now that the former Watford midfielder is free of injury.

Murray has scored some crucial goals during his time so far at Oriel Park, including vital Europa League strikes last year against Sheriff, KI and Molde.

However, he has also missed out on a lot of action because of various knocks.

Murray was on target once again last Friday night against Sligo Rovers, scoring twice as Dundalk returned to winning ways in the Premier Division.

Perth said: “He probably hasn’t done that enough, it’s something we’ve been working on.

“It’s something we brought to the table, when we do video sessions one on one with him.

Arriving

“That first goal is very similar to his first goal in Finn Harps, just arriving at the right moment.

“So look, he’s in a real vein of form, hopefully his injuries have passed him.”

Murray’s European exploits last year helped guide the club to the group stages for the second time in five seasons.

While he couldn’t build on that momentum during the early part of this year, he is now as fitas he’s been at Dundalk.

“He was really fit at the back end of last season, he then had a minor operation that held him back,” said Perth.

“He missed a game with a kick on a calf in Waterford, but beyond that he hasn’t had any muscle injuries in a long time.

“So touch wood ... we’ve always had good number 10s here, McEleney or Benson, and Murray has all those same attributes.

“You can’t play 90-odd games in the Championsh­ip without being a go od player.

“But he had so many different injury issues, different bits and pieces.

“We missed him in Europe. He had Covid. That knocked some players more than others.
