Bryson’s call for crowd to stay calm

- ■ ■Neil McLEMAN

BRYSON DeChambeau drove the Wisconsin crowd crazy by smashing his drive 354 yards onto the first green in his singles match.

And the American world No.7 demanded more from the fans when he rolled home the 40-foot eagle putt to make a flying start against Sergio Garcia.

DeChambeau engaged with spectators again on the sixth tee when his caddie Brian Zeigler persuaded him to take a three wood instead of a driver on the 339-yard par

4 sixth hole.

When murmurs of disappointment went around the tee box, last year’s US

Open winner said: “Guys, I am still going for the green. Calm down!”

Californian DeChambeau, pictured above, hit his three-wood 341 yards to just off the green, chipped on but missed the 10-foot birdie putt.

The longest driver on the PGA Tour hit a drive some 417 yards on No.5 on the opening day on his way to another eagle.
