Perth: Players can’t be forced

VINNY PERTH says footballer­s should not be forced to get the Covid vaccine.

The Dundalk boss was reacting to news that Premier League clubs are pushing for players to get the jab, amid a low uptake within the game.

The number of players in the English top-p flightg that were double doublejabb jabbed, acc accordin ing to ne newspape per re reports, wa was as low as 35 per cecent.

PPerth th revealed that twothirds of his squad (66 per cent) had received both injections, while a number of others have received their first dose.

Yet this past week a Covid outbreak at the club robbed him of a number of players and forced the cancellati­on of training ahead of their FAI Cup win over Finn Harps.

Perth said: “We’ve had people who are double-vaxxed get Covid.

“Our numbers are really high.

“I’m going to say 16 double-vaccinated out of a 24- man squad.

“A lot have had one vaccine and then there is a couple who would have a slightly different opinion and that’s fine, it’s not our job to tell them anything.

“No, you can’t (force them), it’s a personal health issue, I think. I’ve encouraged them.”
