KIN GRIPS NATION IN DRAMA

- ■ ■Katie GALLAGHER

ALMOST half a million people tuned in to the third episode of Kin as the series took another bloody turn on Sunday night.

The explosive episode boasted 441,400 viewers on RTÉ One with a further 39,000 watching it on RTÉ One+1.

Another 19,000 people caught up with the latest action on RTÉ Player, bringing the total number of player streams to 465,000 in total, according to an RTE spokesperson.

The drama exploded into life with a brutal killing in Sunday’s show, as key character Caolan Moore was shot in a revenge hit by Michael Kinsella over the murder of his nephew Jamie.

Caolan, played by Lloyd Cooney, was gunned down after being chased from a pub.

And viewers were delighted with the heightened drama after what some labelled “slower” early episodes.

One tweeted: “Have to say #Kin it’s the gift that keeps on giving.”

Feedback

Another added: “Who is still finding fault with kin this weekend starting to heat up nicely can’t wait to see next week’s episode.”

However, the Irish Daily Star can reveal that the national broadcaster received two emails of “negative feedback” from viewers in the past two weeks, after nine complaints were recorded in its opening weekend earlier this month.

The new series, starring Clare Dunne, Emmett Scanlan and Aiden Gillen, centres around crime family The Kinsella’s — a fictional Dublin family embroiled in a gangland war.

The show’s opening episode got off to a grisly start when the gangster family became embroiled in a feud with rival gang the Cunninghams when innocent
