Saka: We are ready to step up to the mark

BUKAYO SAKA believes Arsenal’s kids have shown they are ready to get the club back on the trophy trail after their emphatic win over Spurs.

The England international (right) together with Emile Smith Rowe were key figures in Sunday’s 3-1 derby triumph.

The result saw them leapfrog Tottenham on goals scored but even though they are still only in 10th place, the momentum appears to be heading the right way.

As a result, Saka believes that despite the young age of the squad, the Gunners can start thinking of adding to the single FA Cup success the club have had since the departure of Arsene Wenger more than three years ago.

“We can achieve anything, no matter what age,” Saka, who turned 20 this month, said.

“With age comes experience but we have a lot of experience in this squad anyway which helps us every day and teaches us.

“I believe we have a lot of quality and enough experience to achieve a lot. We’re going to take it game by game but if we

play like this we have enough quality to win trophies. “If we play like that all the time as a team we have a strong chance of doing well this season. Game

“But let’s try to do it every game. This is one game, we have to do it again the next week, the next week and the next week.”

Moreover, having the link between Smith Rowe and himself at the heart of it makes it feel especially homegrown.

“Made in Hale End, yeah?” he smiled. “Before the game at breakfast, Emile and I spoke about this, about how massive it would feel to score in a north London derby.

“We both grew up supporting Arsenal, we both grew up watching these games as an academy player and wanting to be involved in them.

“When Emile scored the first goal, I looked him at him and we remembered the conversation.

“Then when I scored, he looked at me. So it’s a very, very special feeling for both of us. I’m so happy we could do it together.”
