Mega New Years’ gigs planned

-

MUSIC promoters MCD are hoping to stage three mega New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day gigs in the capital.

An application has been received by Dublin City Council from Michael Slattery Associates on behalf of MCD Productions for three huge outdoor concerts at Dublin Castle, Stephen’s Green South and Meeting House Square.

The events will include a New Year’s Eve matinee performance, New Year’s Eve night-time concerts, New Year’s Day matinee, New Year’s Day music performances and New Year’s Day night-time concert.

Headline acts have yet to be announced.

Last year, New Year festivities were cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, 110,000 people attended the New Year Festival across three days with 80,000 alone at the fireworks display.

But organisers said they are advising “caution” when planning this year’s New Year’s celebrations.

In a statement, they said: “We would advise that at this point you treat our event listings with a high degree of caution – many may well still go ahead and we will of course endeavour to keep everything updated as promptly as possible.”
