What to Expect

If there’s one thing New York is famous for at Christmas time, it’s shopping!

Take a stroll down 5th Avenue and enjoy the bright lights and festive sights of the city’s most famous shopping street.

Watch out for the iconic Christmas window displays at Bergdorf Goodman, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, Barneys, and Bloomingdales as you shop ‘til you drop.

Saks Fifth Avenue not only boasts festive holiday windows but also an annual theatrical light show that should not be missed.

The light show is accompanied by music and repeats every 10 minutes from 5pm to 11pm.

Continue to Rockefeller Center and be dazzled by the famous 100ft Christmas Tree. The tradition of this huge Christmas tree dates back to 1933 and a visit is definitely worthwhile if you are in

New York at Christmas.

The decorations and lights are second to none and it is one of our favourite things to do in New York at

Christmas.

The Rockefeller Center tree itself arrives in

November, shortly after Thanksgiving. The lights go on later after a spectacular ceremony to mark the occasion.

While here you must also take in the breath-taking views of a wintery New York at the Top of the Rock Observation deck.

Whatever the time of year, no trip to New

York is complete without a visit to some of the city’s most famous attractions. Take the Staten Island Ferry and sail past Liberty Island, to see the legendary Statue of Liberty up close and personal. Spend time marvelling at artistic masterpieces at the Guggenheim Museum.

Visit Ellis Island to discover the history of America’s immigrants who flocked from all over the world, including Ireland, to make a fresh start in the new world.

Stroll through the cobbled streets of the West Village, where the NYC street grid is suspended and bohemian culture, art, music, and funky restaurants thrive. Whatever you fancy, New York is sure to have it.

Experience all this and more this Christmas with American Holida ys, fr om just €799pp. Call American Holidays Dublin on 01 6733800 and Belfast on 028 90 511800.
