Abraham believes vaccine stance a personal decision

- ■ ■Paul BROWN

TAMMY ABRAHAM says he has taken his Covid jabs but the strong mood of the England side is that they do not want to take a public stance as the poster boys of a vaccination programme.

The Roma striker is believed to be the first England player to share publicly his own medical situation, with the mantra from St George’s Park being it is a private issue.

Abraham, who was forced to miss a friendly last October when his birthday party breached Covid regulations and has suffered from the virus, claimed his situation was different.

But he too was adamant that players, like the general public, should be allowed to make their own choice.

“For me it was a different situation. I am vaccinated. That is a personal choice,” he said. “I have contracted the virus before, I am in Italy and for me it is the right thing to do. But people are entitled to do what they want to do with their bodies.”

Dean Henderson has opened up on his battle with Covid-19 and his determination to reclaim his status as Manchester United’s first- choice keeper.

Campaign

Henderson looked set to start the new campaign as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first- choice between the posts.

But Henderson’s positive coronavirus test and slow recovery from the virus saw David De Gea start the season in goal and excel.

But Henderson (24) who made his comeback appearance in United’s Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham, is adamant he can topple De Gea again.

“It’s been a tough few months for me but to come back in now, among it and feeling at full power is a great feeling,” said Henderson.

“It obviously stopped me at the start of the season and I was unfortunate I got ill but, at the end of the day, you’ve got to take it on the chin and come back better than ever.

“I feel really good now and just want to get out there and prove my worth.”
