Tour fan on trial for crash

-

CHRISTY Dignam has shared his pride over his daughter recording her debut album.

The Aslan singer has fronted the hit Dublin band for four decades.

And Christy passed on his love of music to his only child Kiera.

He told RSVP

Magazine: “Kiera is an amazing singer, a lot better than I am. She’s actually recording her first album at the moment.”

Christy knows all too well how fickle an industry the music business is and admitted he had reservations when Keira, who he shares with wife Kathryn, chose to go down the same road as her famous dad.

Sexism

He added: “Of course I was worried about her. Being a woman in this industry, there’s a lot of sexism that she will have to deal with.” But the Dubliner said the choice was hers.

The 61-year- old added: “I didn’t encourage her to get into the music business but I didn’t discourage her either, I had to let her make her own decisions.”

With Aslan celebrating 40 years in the industry, Christy revealed he will retire “when I’m dead”.

PROSECUTORS in the trial of a roadside spectator who caused a huge crash on the first stage of the Tour de France in June called yesterday for a four-month suspended jail sentence, a lawyer for the riders’ union said.

The French woman, who has not been named, sent one cyclist tumbling to the ground, with dozens more falling as they rode into him.

The woman, who turned herself in days later, had been holding up a cardboard sign towards a television camera.

The court will rule on the case on December 9, said riders’ union lawyer Romuald Palao.
