TV tribute to Late icon Paddy tonight

THE Chieftains founder Paddy Moloney is set to be remembered with a special tribute on the Late Late Show tonight — after he is laid to rest today.

The legendary musician died on Monday night at the age of 83.

The funeral of the multiinstr­umentalist will be held this morning at 11am in St Kevin’s Church in Glendaloug­h, Co Wicklow.

Tonight Ryan Tubridy and the Late Late Show will pay tribute to Mr Moloney with “music, songs and stories”.

Mr Moloney was the founder and leading fi gure of The Chieftains, which he set up along with Sean Potts and Michael Tubridy in 1962.

Aedin said she feels like she has lost the light in her life since her father’s passing.

“The light of my life left today. I love you Daddy so much,” she wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

Mr Moloney has left behind a vast musical legacy, according to President Michael D Higgins.

He said: “He brought a love of Irish music not just to the diaspora, but to all those across the world who heard his music and appreciate­d it for its own sake as it transcende­d all musical boundaries.”
