GLORIOUS SUANNI-SHINE IN STORE AT HAYDOCK

-

I’M A little wary of dipping into turf flat meetings this late in the season proper but I’m always happy to make an exception in the case of a thriving performer, like at Haydock today.

Darryl Holland’s SUANNI (1.15 - Nap) was showing much- improved form when landing an extended 5f nursery at Bath late last month.

She made all on that nursery debut, quickly building up a commanding advantage and just kept up to her work to beat Bluebell Way by 2½ lengths, with Lawful Command four lengths back in fourth.

The pair mentioned above have both won nurseries since and the only other horse to have come out since that contest was a creditable fourth in a similar event having been well beaten at Bath.

It’s fair to say that Suanni’s margin of victory suggested she had around 9lb in hand of her mark, assuming the runner-up ran to her mark, and the fact that said runner-up was a winner from the same mark over the same C& D next time means that she was actually ahead of her mark, making Suanni appear about a stone ahead of the handicapper.

Outstanding

She has gone up just 7lb for that decisive win and looks to have an outstanding chance of defying that rise, especially with William Buick entrusted with getting her nose home in front.

A year ago Air Raid and Lincoln Park were separated by a nose in the Download The Casumo App Handicap, and they meet again, with last year’s winner now 4lb better off.

AIR RAID (2.20) returned to form when third of 21 to Volatile Analyst in the Coral Sprint Trophy at York last time and is an obvious choice to build on that, especially as that effort showed he had benefited d from a wind operation.

The last time he had similar surgery he won three in a row on turf after his first run back, and that gives an indication that he’s very likely to maintain his form now that he’s found it.

He can race off the same mark as for last year’s win, and he’s arguably better drawn in the middle this time, with Lincoln Park drawn widest of all.

The danger could be Cold Stare, who like the selection, is suited by this trip on a flat track when the ground is soft, and Cold Stare looked back to his very best when beating the bang-in-form Bi Big He Les was at Ayr drawn recently. low at Ayr, Ay as he is here and an he’s now strung together to a tidy series of runs ru and appears on very go good terms with hi himself.
