Adele: Go easy on me

STAR ‘GOT SCARED AND LOST WAY’

-

SHE’S finally back — but for a long time Adele was frightened of music after losing her way.

Following a five-year wait, piano ballad Easy On Me arrived yesterday and it was a long journey.

Adele explained: “I definitely feel like I lost sight of and lost the appreciation of what a gift it is to be into music and be able to make it.

“I think I got a bit frightened of it for a while and it really took care of me, big time.

“Notjustmakingthisrecord, butdivingback into old records of other people’s that I loved. It brought so much joy to my life being able to listen to music and wail at the top of my lungs along to me own bloody songs as I was writing them.”

The new album is dedicated to her son Angelo plus details her divorce and personal rebirth.

She said: “I don’t know what my outlet would have been had I not had [music].

Vulnerability

“I’m really proud of it and I feel like I can’t unlock a door for my own mental health and take the key with me. I’ve got to leave it in the door for everyone else and I’m in a strong place now where I feel like I can put that vulnerability out.”

Only producers Greg Kurstin, Max Martin and Inflo were allowed into Adele’s inner sanctum, but it was fellow North Londoner Inflo with whom she bonded most.

“He asked me questions that no- one would ever bloody dare… But it would start with five, six-hour therapy sessions and he would get a feeling out of me that I had no idea was even in me,” she said.

Easy On Me is classic soul-baring Adele, but she promises bigger surprises for the next two songs.

Adele told Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2: “I got very into Goldfrapp and I was like, ‘I can do this music too!’. And there’s another one that’s very 70s, piano singer- songwritery. Just very Carpenters, very Elton.”
