Rohaan’s fantastic – Evans

- ■ Ruairí MURPHY

The suspicion is age iscatchingupwith the fa ntastic Stadivarius, whereas Trueshan looks better than ever.

Stopping

He wouldn’t want the ground to dry too much, but it’s hard to see anything stopping him from defending the crown he won in style last year.

A drop to seven furlongs this season has transformed KINROSS (2.00) and he looks a fascinating contender as he tackles six for the first time in the Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes.

He showed a real burst of

(3.10) can triumph in the big showdown with fellow star miler Palce Pier in the Qipco Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

Palace Pier is obviously a tough opponent but he looked a little less impressive when having to work to win his most recent start at Deauville.

He was a big disappointment in this race last year and has been on the go since April.

Baaeed is the one of the two who promises to deliver a lot more. Unbeaten in five, it is hard to imagine he has done improving and Wi l l iam Haggas (inset left) reports him to be in the shape of his life.

Straight

SIR BUSKER (4.10) has run some of his best races on this straight course, including when a two-length third to Palace Pier in this year’s Queen Anne.

He won a big-field handicap over the Balmoral Handicap course and distance in 2020 and was fourth in last season’s QEII.

He has been as good as ever this year and looks cracking value at 20-1 to snare this prize on such a happy hunting ground.

DAVID EVANS is just asking for Rohaan to enjoy a bit of luck when he bids for Group One glory in the Qipco British Champions Sprint at Ascot today. Things have not gone the three-year- old’s way in three attempts at the top level so far but Evans believes Rohaan has what it takes to make his mark.

The Mayson gelding has been a tremendous asset to the Evans team after being bought for 20,000 guineas at last year’s horses in training sales.

He has won seven times, including two Group races, and put in a tremendous weightcarrying performance to win the Wokingham at the Royal meeting.

Rohaan ran an amazing race at the Curragh last month after losing many lengths at the start.

He stayed on strongly to finish fifth, just two lengths behind the winner Romantic Proposal.

Nice

“I’ve been counting down the days for the last three weeks,” said Evans.

“It was nice to see him bouncing back at the Curragh.

“It was disappointing on the day, but nice to see the horse is as good as I thought he was.

“I spoke to Ryan ( Moore) and he said he’d rather be drawn with the speed horses.

“They are drawn low and he is drawn 15, but if he takes his time he can go wherever he wants.

“I think he’s the best horse in the race and with any luck he’ll win, but you always need the luck on the day.

“He’s a fantastic horse and hopefully the best is to come.

“I’m looking forward to Saturday. It’s a nice position to be in.”
