Soap villain catches Covid

FORMER Fair City actor John Cronin — who played baddie Will Casey — has revealed he contracted COVID-19 just weeks after leaving Carrigstown.

John’s character Will was killed off in bloody scenes earlier this summer after working on the soap for four years.

Fair City cast and crew undergo weekly testing to ensure no one has COVID-19 — and John said just weeks after he finished filming, he contracted the virus.

He told The Star: “A couple of weeks off was no harm. I went down to Kerry and had a nice little holiday.

“Then believe it or not, we were due to start (rehearsing for his new role in the play GLUE) on the Monday four weeks ago and guess what, on the Sunday, I started feeling like I had a cold.

“I got tested and got Covid.”

GLUE is a powerful Robbie O’Connor play about two young men, friends since childhood, and their journey through mental health, addiction and denial.

“There are two characters and they’re old friends but they have been out of contact for 10 years.

“I play Dean who has contacted this man who was his friend many years before when they were teenagers to come and visit him so what we witness is two friends reconnecting.

“There is a parallel with Will Casey — Dean appears as a very together and successful person in society and projects himself as what a man should be which is a good family man,

“But there is a story to be revealed. I think it will be thrilling to find out what happened in the past.”

GLUE opens Wednesday October 20 at Axis in Ballymun Dublin at 8pm and runs until Saturday 23.
