EX-RTE GAA pundit Joe Brolly is to marry a cousin of US President Joe Biden next weekend.

The Derry All- Ireland medal winner will tie the knot with his fiancee, the podcaster and radio presenter Laurita Blewitt (39).

Over 100 guests from the GAA, politics and showbiz will attend the function at a hotel in Co Mayo, including Laurita’s best buddies - Tommy Tiernan and Hector O hEochagain.

Laurita’s hilarious podcast with the pair is the most successful in Ireland with over 10 million downloads across the globe.

She is a third cousin of the American President and has met him on numerous occasions.

Both she and barrister Joe (53) were present for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations with the Taoiseach in the White House.

Message

The President is expected to send them a good luck message. He and Joe have struck up a great personal relationship and are regularly in contact.

The outspoken pundit never appeared again on the RTE Sunday Game since the 2019 All Ireland final, much to the disappointment of viewers.

He had a strained relationship with the new Head of Sport but was “shocked” to be removed.

Since then RTE has said goodbye to his longtime pundit colleagues, the new Meath manager Colm O Rourke, and Kerry legend Pat Spillane who left last week because “he wasn’t enjoying it anymore”.

RTE has taken a strategic decision to bring in younger pundits as opposed to more older, outspoken, controversial , figures as they see it.

Joe and Laurita have been dating for a couple of years and got engaged last year. He and his first wife Emma, with whom he has five children, split up several years ago.

A pal said: “He and Laurita are a great couple, and very happy together.

“They are getting married in her native Mayo and it should be a great weekend. All their close friends in the GAA and showbiz world are going.

“Joe is one of the best, a very decent and clever guy who always calls a spade a spade whether it is in the courtroom, on the sports pitch or the political arena.”
