When Katie played the band’s 1995 hit song Don’t Look Back in Anger, sheila said: “Oh God I love that record. “Why don’t those silly boys get together again? It was magnificent.”

Inspector Morse star John Thaw, who died aged 60 in 2002, grew up in the Manchester suburb of Burnage, as did Liam and Noel.

THE Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, is almost here.

And that’s kicked off a whole lot of talk about dragons, sword-fighting and the OG series… And the controversial final season of Game of Thrones, too.

The final run of six episodes left fans divided when it came to an end in 2019, and it doesn’t look like the passing of time’s made it much better.

But in the end, the final season — while it had its flaws — isn’t as bad as it was made out to be.

Sure, the storylines were a bit on the rushed side, whether that was because of a condensed timeline or just because there were a million and one characters to wrap up the storylines for.

Close

And while a few more episodes would have enabled them to bring some more of the characters’ stories to a close (or, at least, to have a bit more time to deal with the Night King), the storylines made sense at their core.

Whether it was Daenerys becoming the Mad Queen or Bran ultimately ending up on the Iron Throne, the seeds for many plot lines had been planted — and, in some cases, the red flags about certain characters were flying high — well before the opening credits of season eight began.

After all, who better to rule than the person who can see the past, present and future — and who can use that knowledge to learn from past mistakes?

Fans’ expectations also factored into the response to the final season. The anticipation for the final run of episodes was at an all-time high for the show — and, as it was now well past the source material, there were so many hurdles that they could fall at. There was just no way to

win.

Idea

Everyone has their own idea of which character should be sitting on the Iron Throne at the end of it all — or who shouldn’t be.

And yes, there were definitely things that could’ve — and should’ve — been fleshed out more, and those characters that deserved better.

But there was also no way to wrap everything up, and answer all the remaining questions, in a way that’d make everyone happy.

And as far back as the season one premiere, it was made clear: Game of Thrones isn’t a tale that gives out happily ever afters.
