HOMELESS HELP ISSUES A BIT OF A SNORE POINT Complaints over services included assault and harassment

- ■■Ken FOXE

A NORTH Carolina woman seeking revenge on her ex tried to set fire to his house.

The arsonist was rumbled when she was seen by a neighbour attempting to light bundles of wood with the help of a jug of oil. Sadly for the woman, who now faces jail after being charged, the house she targeted was the wrong one.

THE latest crazy lawsuit is a man suing outdoor hunting chain Bass Pro.

The cause of his complaint? Refusing to honour its lifetime warranty – on socks.

Kent Slaughter, of Springfield, Missouri, said he tried to return four pairs of socks without success, adding the warranty was a significant factor in his decision to buy the socks.

MICHIGAN’S QaShontae Short is seeking $10,000 in damages from Richard Jordan.

She claims she is owed this for “intentional infliction of emotional distress” — after he stood her up on a date.

A FAST food restaurant in North Carolina attempted to cut the need to pay its workers.

The Hendersonville branch of Chick-fil-A celebrated its opening by offering to compensate “volunteers” with chicken.

“We are looking for volunteers for our new Drive Thru Express,” its Facebook post read.

“Earn 5 free entrees per shift (1 hr) worked. Message us for details.”

The restaurant quickly took down the offer.

A MARRIED couple not being allowed to stay together, a broken bed that injured a child, harassment and assault by staff, and a snoring roommate were among the complaints made about homeless services this year.

The Dublin Regional Homeless Executive (DRHE) said it had received nearly sixty formal complaints in the first half of this year.

Thirty-three of the complaints related to staff at hostels and accommodation while ten were about living conditions in housing.

In one incident in January, a resident alleged that they had been assaulted by a staff member while three other complaints were made since then containing allegations of “harassment by staff ”.

A mother complained in February that she had raised an issue about a broken bed in her room, which has now “caused injury to her son”.

Injured

Another client also said he had been injured at homeless accommodation in January in what was described as a “shower door incident”.

There were multiple complaints from people who were struggling to sleep due to other residents making noise including one “roommate [whose] snoring is keeping [the] client awake at night”. In another similar complaint, a resident said they were being woken by staff at night. The theft of personal items was reported by one resident in June while a married couple logged a complaint when they could not be accommodated together.

One client complained that he had no access to food as he was at work during scheduled mealtimes and was prohibited from using the kitchen when he returned.

Councillor

Another person said they were being left standing at the door of their accommodation “for long periods before [being allowed] entry”.

Two complaints were received about harassment with one resident pleading for a single room saying they were “being bullied by other residents”.

A complaint was also made by TD Róisín Shortall on behalf of a resident about the “conditions of [a facility]”.
