‘Fangs for getting fiver back to me...’

BOY’S NOTE FROM TOOTH FAIRY RETURNED

- ■■Louise WALSH

A YOUNG boy has been reunited with a handwritten fiver that the tooth fairy left him after a lady who received it in change ‘couldn’t bear to part with it.’

Marie Kenny decided to search for Jamie Cully when she was handed the five euro in a pub while on a night away in Portlaoise and was surprised when she found him just 14 kilometers away from her home in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

Jamie, from Rochfortbridge was given the money when he lost his tooth on 27th November last year and the fiver read “’To Jamie Cully, Thanks for the tooth! Love the Tooth Fairy x.”

Change

Through the power of social media, Marie tracked down Jamie’s parents within two hours and gave the money back to him last Saturday.

“I went away for a few nights’ stay in Portlaoise and I got the fiver back in change after paying for a few drinks in a pub,” said Marie. “I saw the note on the fiver and thought I can’t spend that so I put it into the back of my wallet and that’s where it stayed for weeks until I came across it again on Friday and put the post up on social media.

“A lot of people pass through Portlaoise so I thought Jamie could be anywhere in Ireland or indeed the world. Imagine my surprise when he turned out to be living just a few kilometers away from where I live in Westmeath.

“I have five grandchildren so I couldn’t spend this. I just thought with all that’s going on in the world at the minute, isn’t this so magical and innocent.

“Jamie and his mam came into my work on Saturday and he was so lovely. He even gave me a bouquet of flowers.”

Mum Niamh Cully said that Jamie was delighted to get his fiver back.
