Rare Lego building in value OUR WORLD

RARE TOYS WORTH THOUSANDS TODAY

-

IF YOU dumped your child’s Lego during a spring clean maybe look away now — as you might have thrown out some easy money.

Or — if you stashed it all away in the attic it may be time to retrieve it — as it could bank you a fortune.

It’s emerged that a rare Star Wars Lego figure is set to fetch €2,000 at auction — 20 years after its release — proving that there’s gold in them there bricks.

And that’s because when Star Wars and Lego combine, it sends collectors into a bidding frenzy.

The tiny Boba Fett figurine was originally released in 2003 as part of an expensive box set that cost fans over €120.

After poor sales the Cloud City playset has since become a collectors’ item — with the full set valued at over €3,500.

The Boba Fett figure is expected to bring in between €1,0002,000 at East Bristol Auctions on August 21.

Lucy McCourt, the auctioneer’s Toy Specialist, said: “The two largest franchises in the world are Lego and Star Wars.

“When those fanbases combine, that’s when we see collectors getting excited.

“This Boba Fett figure was only ever available in the Cloud City set, so all the Lego collectors out there who couldn’t afford the set now need this figure.

Plastic

“Plus, he’s a Bounty Hunter, and everybody loves a baddie!”

Lucy added: “It’s incredible that this small piece of plastic is worth so much money — it goes to show how well loved both Star Wars and Lego really are.

“Collecting can be an expensive business.

“There are fans all around the world who will want to add this to their collection.

“We’re expecting global interest for this little figure [on the day of the auction].”

Lego, a Danish company, has been making the popular toy since 1958.

Even in this digital era, Legos have held their popularity with both children and adults.

Rare versions in mint condition become valuable collectors’ items and command top dollar.

A sealed Lego set can be worth up to 10 times as much as one that has been opened.

And some extremely rare Lego really is gold.

Karat

In 2017, the world’s most valuable Logo brick sold in an online auction for almost $20,000 (€19,600).

The single brick was made of solid 14-karat gold, and was never made available to purchase by the public.

It’s believed that less than 10 ex

are known to exist.

And even though the rare brick was made from solid gold, it was still compatible to use with ordinary Lego sets.

The value of the brick’s gold content was around $2,100 (€2,000), but its extreme rarity sparked a bidding war amongst diehard Lego collectors and it eventually sold on the online auction site Catawiki for £15,750 (€19,200).

Between 1979 and 1981, the Lego Company produced a handful of these solid-gold bricks and presented them as special gifts to emamples ployees at their factory in Hohenwestedt, Germany, who had worked there for more than 25 years.

But when it comes to what might be gathering dust in your attic, Lego models of the Millennium Falcon are deemed to be the most wanted Lego collector’s item.

Good examples — especially if they’re in mint condition — can sell for up to ten times their original price, banking lucky punters thousands of euro, proving that you don’t have to venture to a galaxy far, far away to make some money. he embarks on the path to become a rebel hero. It is set against the backdrop of a wider rebellion against the Empire and how different people became involved.
