The incident at Tayto Park, which took place on March 27, is not the first time an animal has escaped from its enclosure at the zoo.

A white stork took advantage of hot weather in June 2021 to flee using thermals – rising columns of warm air – by flying high over and away from the zoo.

THERE are 27 unidentified remains in the State, data collected by the country’s coroners has revealed.

The Department of Justice sought details on the human remains within their districts dating back 70 years.

Data submitted to the department by the State’s coroners reveal there are 13 unidentified whole remains and 14 partial remains in Ireland. Seven are male, three are female and the rest are unidentified.

Last year, all coroners in the country were asked to provide information on any unidentified remains they have within their districts.

Database

Minister for Justice Helen McEntee said this information will be passed by her office to An Garda Siochana.

This, McEntee said “hopefully will allow and support the missing persons unit with Forensic Science Ireland to identify more missing individuals and to hopefully help more families.”

The information will also be placed on a central database that will be updated annually by coroners.

“The database will be there for An Garda Siochana to access. It is really important that all of this information is accessible to An Garda Siochana,” McEntee said.

Chairperson of The National Missing Persons Helpline, Dermot Browne said: “With over 800 long-term missing in this country anything that helps to bring some relief to the families is to be welcomed.”
