EXPLOSIVE FOUND ON BEACH ‘HISTORIC’

WORKERS HIT THE JACKPOT

- ■■David O’CONNOR

AN EXPLOSIVE device found on a Co Louth beach yesterday is understood to be historic.

A section of Clogherhead beach, which is about 12km northeast of Drogheda, was sealed off by gardai after the device was discovered.

The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal attended the scene at the popular fishing village.

It is understood the device, which was found on the sand, may have washed ashore and be historic in nature.

A garda spokesman said: “The area was sealed off and the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit has been contacted.”

Meanwhile, beaches around the country are set to be packed with sun-lovers today — with temperatures set to hit 24C.

And don’t pack away the barbecue just yet as there are more warm days ahead.

Met Eireann predicts temperatures will be “a little bit above average” for this time of year.

But there won’t be any extremes with the mercury rising to highs of 23C or 24C by Tuesday.

High pressure is likely to dominate bringing with it temperatures in the low to mid 20s with warm, sunny spells.

A SYNDICATE made up of council workers won €5,541,001 in Wednesday’s Lotto draw.

Local reports suggest the winners are a syndicate from Galway City Council.

The syndicate is the seventh jackpot winner of the year.

The winning numbers for Wednesday’s draw were 9, 10, 17, 32, 33, 39 and the bonus was 47.

A National Lottery spokeswoman said: “Wednesday night was certainly life-changing for one of our lucky players in Galway who now has a Lotto ticket worth over €5.5 million in their possession.
