Children in foster care abandoned by the State

-

A CHILD in Tusla’s foster care service was not visited by a social worker for over three years, a damning report revealed.

An inspection report by the Health Information and Quality Authority, (HIQA) has also shown there were at least 63 children in foster care, according to a statutory visit at the end of March this year in the north city area of Dublin.

Throughout the HIQA review, it became apparent through a review of files that there were periods where children in care were not visited in line with statutory requirements.

Danger

The watchdog has said that Tusla’s Dublin North City area gave it “satisfactory assurances” in relation to how the service was addressing these urgent issues.

Eilidh MacNab, Dublin North East Regional Chief Officer, said she “fully acknowledged” that there were areas of practice that were not to the high standards expected.

She said that while Tusla cannot “stand over” the findings of the HIQA report, children were not in danger.

She told RTÉ: “We are taking immediate action to address these issues.”

She added: “All 63 children now have an allocated social worker.”

A FORMER Derry GAA star has appeared in court in the US over an alleged “unprovoked attack” that left a victim at risk of losing a kidney.

Police in Boston, Massachusetts arrested Ciaran McFaul (28) after an alleged assault in June of this year.

The former Watty Grahams Glen star faces charges of assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

Defender McFaul first joined the Derry panel in 2012 but left earlier this year, heading to Boston to play his football there.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office alleged that McFaul was heavily intoxicated and was kicked out of Lincoln Tavern and Restaurant following attempts to start fights inside the establishment on June 20 at around 2am local time.

Punched

It’s then alleged that the Co Derry native allegedly encountered three men and assaulted the group.

It’s alleged that he punched one victim three times in the face, causing the victim to fall to the ground.

He’s also accused of kicking the victim in the abdomen at least five times.
