IRISH ANGLE

- By Brian Flanagan

NAP OF THE DAY

JACK KENNEDY has a lead of 12 over Paul Townend in the NH jockey’s title race and has a chance to increase that lead with the champion out for a few weeks with an injury.

Kennedy travels to Wexford for just one ride on JUNIOR BEE (5.15) in the 2m4f Handicap Hurdle.

Trainer Mark Molloy won with the mare here back in May over 2m1f and a step up in distance could be the right move after she looked a little one paced when fifth at Cork last time out.

EACH WAY THIEF

IRISH Grand National winning duo Dermot McLoughlin and Paddy O’Hanlon have an each-way chance with THE GREAT WHITE (7.00) in the 2m4f Handicap Chase. The grey gelding was unlucky to lose a race in the stewards room at Kilbeggan last month and he should be competitive again despite a 2lbs rise. He jumped well that night and is a horse that stays well too, so it would be a surprise if he’s not in the mix here.

ONE TO WATCH

EDWARD O’Grady has gone over 100 days without a winner but ACT OF GOD (6.25) can get him off the cold list in the Beginners’

Chase at Wexford.

He was fifth in a better race than this at Galway last week and looks to be getting the hang of it over fences, having also finished runner-up at Tipperary in July.

He was rated 125 over hurdles, so should be up to winning one of these soon for the veteran trainer O’Grady and Darragh O’Keeffe.

ONE TO SWERVE

THERE’S a flat meeting at Tipperary tonight too where the featured Churchill Stakes is a Listed contest for juveniles.

Ryan Moore is over to ride Greenland (6.45) for Aidan O’Brien but the colt was a beaten favourite at Killarney and takes on some decent rivals here, including Papilo, who beat him in Kerry.

He’s a very well-bred colt who is going the right way but it might not be the night he gets his head in front.
