United will let Ronaldo leave to repair damaged squad morale

A LEAGUE of Ireland footballer has received death threats in the aftermath of a match on Monday.
Cork City striker Louis Britton highlighted the abuse he was sent on social media after their clash with Waterford FC.
Britton came off the bench for the First Division leaders, having spent five months on loan at the
Blues this season.

However, in the wake of the 0-0 draw at Turner’s Cross, Britton was sent a number of messages — including a voicemail which threatened that he’d “have his throat slit” should he step foot in Waterford again.
Other messages saw users wish for Britton to “do his ACL”, urging him to “book a hospital appointment” and wanting him to suffer a “careerending injury”.
United insist their most high-profile and decorated player is not for sale.
But it has emerged there are those within the club who feel it would be in the best interests of the squad to allow Ronaldo to go after just a year back at Old Trafford. Those who work with the United squad on a daily basis have become alarmed at the impact Ronaldo’s disillusionment is starting to have on the rest of Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Stance
While Ten Hag has publicly maintained United’s stance that Ronaldo is not for sale, privately it is understood he has misgivings about the value of keeping the 37-year-old against his will.
Ronaldo’s former club Sporting Lisbon are the favourites to sign him, but the 37-year-old is likely to have to take a huge pay cut on his €600,000-a-week wages to facilitate any move.
