BRIDE & GLORY

- ■Michelle MARTIN

FOR MANY BRIDES, one of the most important parts of the day is the wedding dress.

And, when it comes to trends, in 2023 it’s all about big, statement gowns.

From full-on drama, inspired by period romances, to sexy, sleek designs that wouldn’t look amiss on a red carpet — maximalism is back.

One designer who is at the forefront of these trends is award-winning fashion designer, Kathy De Stafford from Ireland’s leading boutique De Stafford Bridal.

With the nation’s largest bridal event — the Wedding & Honeymoon Show — just around the corner, Kathy gave us her five top trends that brides can look forward to in 2023…

1. Two Gowns in One

The trend of wearing more than one dress for the wedding day is one that is here to stay.

However, not every bride has the budget for multiple dresses, or the time to get changed on their big day.

With a ‘two gowns in one’ wedding dress, you get the best of both worlds: the statement look of a formal wedding gown, and the chic reception look that fits your personal style.

A fitted bodice and skirt with a big overskirt (such as the Cocobella dress seen left) , either in tulle or in a heavier fabric like a ball gown style, means the bride to be can celebrate the first part of the ceremony in a beautiful romantic look and later step out in the more fitted, fun look.

2. Pearls are a girl’s best friend

2023 is set to see the return of the pearl.

If the idea of a full-on pearl dress feels a bit OTT for you, there are understated ways to include it like incorporating pearl detail along the edge of the dress neckline as seen left.

3. Bring on the Bows

The bow is back with a bang.

Bows are the statement – whether on the front, back, side or shoulder.

Adding a hint of glamour and an undeniable feminine touch, a ‘simple’ bow can create a show-stopping bridal moment.

4. Puff Sleeves

Volume sleeves, whether puff, bell or balloon, are big news in bridalwear.

They’re an easy way to add wow to a classic shape, plus if you’re not a fan of getting your arms out, they’re the perfect cover-all without compromising on style.

5. Florals

While florals often make the best mother of the bride outfits, they’re now also the perfect choice for modern brides.

Gowns with hand-painted floral motifs and embroidered blooms will be a big trend in 2023 — and it’s easy to see why.

They’re the perfect choice for a country wedding or for brides who want something a little more eye-catching than the usual white. De Stafford Bridal will be one of 120 plus exhibitors at the Wedding & Honeymoon Show.

Ireland’s largest wedding event, there will be something for all brides and grooms to be — from live fashion shows showcasing the latest bridal trends to tasty desserts, flowers and all things bridal beauty.

Featuring some of the hottest experts in the industry, if you’re currently in wedding planning mood, this is the event where Ireland’s best wedding suppliers will be — and all under one roof.

Taking place at the RDS on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September, tickets cost €15. ● For more info visit www.wed. ie or follow @weddublin on social.
